Grinding
Our capacity include surface and universal grinding. Grinding is an ideal process for hard materials such as stainless steel, tungsten and tool steel.
Universal Grinding
Universal grinding is undertaken on our Ribbon Universal Grinder which an Ø11" swing with 45" B/C. Universal grinding offers both cylindrical and internal grinding capability and is typically used for finishing turned parts.
Surface Grinding
The Jones "& Shipman 540 P Surface Grinder has a reciprocating 18" x 6" table and a 9 ½" clearance from wheel to table top. Wheel thicknesses upto 1/2" and Ø7" can be used. Surface grinding is ideal for finishing machined billets and castings.
Surface Finish
Most grinding is supplied as is, although we have the inhouse capability for the inspection of surface finishes using comparative surface roughness gauges ranging from 2-500 microinches which covers milled, turned, ground and lapped standards.

A full range of abrasives are available for varying surface finishes (in accordance to ANSI 74.13-1990 and ANSI B74.3-1986 standards) including:

Available grain sizes vary from 6 - 8 coarse grit to 1000 - 2000 for polishing & lapping.
Availability of specific grades is variable and an additional charge would be made for grades and types not in stock.

Lapping & polishing can also be managed as a service using trusted local firms.
