As a small machine shop we are always happy to get involved with prototype development of machined components and model making. As well as undertaking the machining we can also advise on material selection, machining techniques and production streamlining.
Working With The Customer
In our experience, customers with prototype requirements are at the leading edge, whether its a project for a new door handle or a part for a complex automotive development. And as such they need all the design assistance they can get. We aim to work closely with the customer to develop a deep understanding of their requirements and to understand the issues. For example, if you are developing a product for mass production then reduced production time which equates to fewer cuts is required, whereas if you are prototyping parts for future die cast moulding production then you'll be more interested in future ease of tool design for the part. Whatever the customers objective, we have the experience and ability to assist at all levels..
It is not uncommon for customers to request multiple revisions of components, each with a varied alteration to some dimension. Common revisions involve reducing thicknesses for weight reduction or strengthening thin wall sections for increased structural integrity. We can also machine components in a range of materials for use in field trial experiments. We can handle all requirements and often work over an extended period of time handling prototype modifications at short notice.
The handset below was a prototype machined in aluminium for demonstration purposes. The production item was then manufactured using plastic injection molding techniques.
